Dear Father and Mother
I take my pen in hand to let you know that I am well at present and hoping that these few lines may find you all the same I received your letter this mroing and was glad to hear from you all we are in Missippi it near Corinth we have to lay on the ground and we fight with the secesh pickets every day and we whip them every time and drive them back and we thing that we will have a big fight with them soon now for we are close to them now and we have heavy guns here and we will give them hark for a while and if I live I will be in this fight and if I get though I will rite again soon as I can rite after the fight is over and I think that I will be at home against fall to stay to the winter with you for I think that we have them about whipped now and we have got New Orleans in our possession and we think that McClelen has got hear this battle will wind it up and Martin Clutter is well and Unclear John has run off and gone to Cincinnati to the hospital and I don’t know when he will be back to us and tell Harrison Davis that I want him to rite me a letter and Joseph Staniger I would like for to rite him me pap I can't send him no money till the fourth of July as we have to march all the time measlay July and here is a song for you
